About the actual vehicle
- M8 is one of the wheeled armored vehicles developed by the US military during World War II.
- The vehicle developed by Ford based on the requirements of the U.S. military was formalized in May 1942. It was decided to be deployed as the main equipment in the cavalry reconnaissance battalion.
- The vehicle is a monocoque type with a 6x6 mechanism undercarriage and a welded body. It was equipped with a rear-mounted inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine that produced 110 horsepower.
- Boasts a maximum speed of 90km/h and exhibits high mobility with 6-wheel drive. In addition, the hull was equipped with a rotating turret, and the main gun was equipped with a 37mm tank gun.
- Based on this M8, the M20 multi-purpose armored vehicle was also created by removing the turret, installing an open-top cabin, and modifying it so that it could carry six soldiers.
- More than 8,000 M8s and 3,700 M20s were produced, and they were used on each front. It was nicknamed Greyhound.
